At Vine, we design buildings that live and last. They live because they are people focused, created with local insight and community understanding. They last because they are based on first principles evolving from simple forms, richly composed and robustly detailed.
The places we make bring people together.
The possibility of connecting communities is present whatever the setting, but the most engaging places help people to feel that they belong, encouraging them to participate in civic life. We achieve this in our work through conversation and consultation, making architecture that feels inevitable and enriching because it is built out of values shared with its users.
We commit to designing places where people feel they belong.
The places we design are made for now, and for the future.
We endeavour to create buildings that endure, using minimal embodied energy to mitigate climate change. We favour the lower-tech and the local - natural materials found close-at-hand. We believe in subtle moves rather than grand gestures, looking to understand the history and development of an area and apply considered, pragmatic and site specific proposals that are informed by the inherent spirit of the site.
We commit to designing buildings that will last for one hundred years and beyond.
We work in the best interest of our clients, collaborators and those that use our buildings, recognising that really successful architecture only happens when the right team comes together around a shared goal. Our approach is founded on respect, professionalism and creative rigour. We have offices in London and Oxford, and our work extends across the UK to settings both urban and rural.
Our team began in 2014, when Rory Pennant-Rea founded the studio. Since then we have grown into a dedicated, diverse group of individuals, with a broad range of skills and experience across many different project types, and connected by our shared interest in the positive social impacts of good design.
Rory studied at Newcastle University, the Architectural Association – where he was awarded the Henry Saxon Snell Scholarship – and the Bartlett School of Architecture, London. He has considerable experience across residential, commercial, transport, public realm, cultural, arts and education projects, and a particular belief in the positive role of town planning in the creation of successful, lasting places. He has taught in schools of architecture across the UK.
