STUDIO

Founded in 2011, Vine is a group of architects, designers, makers and doers based in East London. We focus on working with our clients from the outset to establish a brief and set out the project objectives and guiding principles prior to starting the design process.

First and foremost, we are architects. We thrive on creating space and assembling complementing materials, textures, finishes and products that invoke an emotional response. We work by discussing and researching each project then sketching and model making to test ideas. We offer a truly bespoke and personalised service dedicated to the improvement of the built environment and how we experience our surroundings.

We relish the challenge of project delivery continually seeking to bridge the gap between design and construction; a gap which is symptomatic of (or evident in) many architectural projects today. We do this through working closely with all those involved from clients and stakeholders to contractors, craftsmen and specialists.

We are an architectural practice that works on both commissioned work and self-generated projects. We use our collaborative approach to solve briefs that we are given or ones that we believe need exploring.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

We offer a bespoke architectural service not based on pre-determined stylistic principles. Early conversations with the client serve as a catalyst and help inform and enrich our design response.

Regardless of scale, we treat each project uniquely and will start the design process with no presumptions. We believe in dexterity, be it in the creative re-appropriation of buildings, responding to or writing a strategic urban planning policy, designing a piece of public space or specifying a door handle.

We recognise the built environment is an ever changing canvas. With the simple mantra that good design lasts, we favour long term thinking and therefore take care to make sure our proposals have a continued function and beauty. A structure can be temporary, but it should look to serve the ever changing demands of future generations.

VALUES

VINE has particular interest and expertise in socially minded responses to questions posed by towns and cities. This stems from a belief that the built environment is not simply a physical framework to inhabit and that urban design should serve as a tool to facilitate social interaction, exchange and enjoyment.

In order to achieve this VINE gives great emphasis to context and investigating a site / brief prior to designing. This exploration leads to a deeper discovery of place which subsequently informs the creation / appropriation of space, function, structure and amenity.

We believe in an intelligent use / approach to the world’s natural resources favouring re-use, recycling and up-cycling over the consumption of non renewable materials and fuel.

The practice’s values and ideology promote continued exploration, collaboration and responsive contextualised design. We aim to bring creative energy, an inquisitive mind, and deliver tangible results on every project that we work on.

We are led by an optimistic belief that creativity enriches all.

COLLABORATION

We believe in expertise and teamwork. We encourage collaboration across all projects with the firm belief that a collective of dedicated and creative minds working together are far greater than the sum of their individual parts.

We aim to instigate discourse to listen, learn, and be inspired from a variety of interesting and diverse people and organisations.

We feel privileged to work with extremely talented, engineers, artists, craftsmen, contractors and consultants to deliver the best possible result for our clients.

Creativity surrounds us, in the wisdom of others and by virtue of sharing. Ideas are best shared to maximize their promise not to dilute their potential.
