THOUGHTS
- An interesting talk and exhibition by Michael Wolf on at the Flowers Gallery
- The NLA Talk - Reinventing the Mansion Block-throws up some interesting questions and solutions on how to intensify suburban areas using the typology of the mansion block.
- Does the New York Highline, by taking people away from the street, unify or divide the city?
- Do open design competitions benefit architects or architecture (or both)?
- Is mixed use development the answer to building communities?
- Should architectural practice and education be more integrated?
- Design = process not product
- If property ownership was designated as space and not land would this encourage greater urban density?
- All architects and planners should be encouraged to read Lindsey Hanley
- Does branding have a role to play in architecture?
- Can Jane Jacobs’ explanation lead to progressive regeneration - ‘Dull inert cities, it is true, do contain the seeds of their own destruction and little else; but lively, diverse, intense cities contain the seeds of their own regeneration, with energy enough to carry over for problems and needs outside themselves’
- Is public space infrastructure?
- Should London build up?
- Is there a place for classical greek order in today’s architecture?
